From some of my musings on Elijah,.....He recluses, from the presence of
God on Horeb. Here is where I want to focus, He is living in a cave, not in
the presence of God. Elijah once a man on fire for God has lost touch with
the realities of who God was, and what God was doing.!! He is in despair,
aloof, forlorn, forgotten. He implies that God is going to judge Israel for
her sin, not realizing that the presence of God will bring repentance, a
change of mind, of heart, of condition. The present state of the spiritual
life of Israel is that her alters are abandoned, broken down, the flame of
Gods presence and power had gone out, prophets and priests are treated
with contempt and killed, Israel was being led by false spiritual
leadership. God does not say, well Elijah, you are right, and your
indulgence in self pity is justified, God does not inform the prophet, that
his state of spiritual existence is almost as bad, if not worse, He tells
him.... "GO OUT" 1 Kings 19:11 otherwise, Get out of the state or condition
of existing in the bowels of the flesh. Get out of the thinking, believing,
view of this present world, which is dark and dank, GET OUT into the light
of God again and stop breathing the stale air of spiritual apathy, phlegm
and languor you exist in. The N.T. teaches us in Romans 12:2 Not to be
conformed to this world, but transformed, renewed, revitalized, revived.
As I pharaphrase that verse into William Linn translation, 1:1, Don't let the
devil, world, culture press you, squeeze you, pound you, beat you into a
mold that is of this world, but "LET GOD" Let him do as he will do to Elijah
as he steps out of the cave.
As soon as he did, he experienced something, a wind blew across his
ministry again, then an earthquake, and fire. All where things God did, but
HE was not in them, then God spoke, out of silence........ I have often
prescribed to the idea that God speaks from silence, but in silence also
we find His presence.
