“Two Baskets of Figs” by Eugene Peterson READ Jeremiah 24:1-10 The Lord showed me two baskets of figs placed before the temple of the Lord. Jeremiah 24:1a Were the people taken into Babylonian exile the unlucky ones, and the people left in Jerusalem the lucky ones? Quite the opposite. The exile would train a people into wholehearted love and service. Jeremiah’s vision shows that what we often imagine to be misfortune may be the best thing that could happen to us. What misfortune has God used for your good? PRAYER: Teach me to interpret events by your Word, O God, and not by the editorials in the newspaper. Train me in responding to trouble in ways that will fix my heart on your salvation, in the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
